I am going to be starting a case by case argument for EE and it's various machines. I encourage any newbies to read this thread as it will give you a VERY clear idea of why things are banned and what I think the balanced solution could be.
Energy condensers are one very popular item in EE that allows users to take a simple item like charcoal and let it grow into aeternious fuel. I am speaking from a purely practical use here as I have no idea how to change this, however, I am under the impression that John can do wonders in coding.
The reason it is banned right now is because it can get out of hand VERY quickly and you would see red matter stuff flying off the shelves. It doesn't necesarily let you duplicate the items like an energy condenser would do, but it does only work with fuel sources and it only upgrades them. It's fueled by light and it basically runs itself.
This machine progresses items like this. charcoal->redstone->coal->Gunpowder-> Glowstone Dust->Blaze Powder->Glowstone->Mobius Fuel->Aeternalis Fuel. As you can see, this really doesn't produce anything currently in game that amazing besides giving players who don't want to go to the nether access to blaze powder and glowstone.
The machine operates using light as a fuel and does an exchange of 1:1.
My proposition to make this machine useful in game is to nerf it 'till it's balanced. To make this balance, a coder would have to add a change in the rate of exchange and perhaps remove a farmeable item(charcoal). After balancing, the collector would work like this
-Still opperates on light
-charcoal cannot be used in the collector
-the exchange would be modified to a consistant 8:1 ratio. If you were to do the math, you can see that making aeternious fuel would NOT be easy at all and perhaps even considering making it might be foolish as you LOSE a lot for just 1 aeternious fuel.
This would also slightly change the game market a little
-Price for DM/RM materials would go up, it's too easy to obtain in my opinion for as high tier as it is.
-Aeternious/Mobius fuel would be a high tier currency that you could put into a trade-o-mat to get various DM/RM items
-There would then be an opportunity for the player to invest in these high fuels and make HIGH profit on them thus stimulating our server economy
So, as you can see, the EC is relitively harmless as it's only purpose is to simply upgrade fuels. It's only potential "exploit" would be to create high end fuels and destroy the sense of epicness DM/RM gear has.
I think that if these changes could be made to the Energy collector, it would be the start on the right path for it's inclusion in our game.
Thank you for your time. I will always be looking for more.
