Im creating this thread on behalf of founia, it was his idea sent to me in a PM.
He asked that we create channels in the chat for users who mainly speak in a language other than English.
I seems like a good idea to me, Ideas?

You mean like a proximity chat? Thats actually much easier than adding channels. Only thing is if you want to talk to everyone you have to type ! before all you type.
!Everyone would see this
Only those around you would see this.
That seems annoying to me.

could you look at working it the other way around Gn3sda? so that local chat is ! and normal chat isn't? That might work

Unfortunately, no. I just did a bunch of searching for it, the permissions are set up only to allow or disallow using the !, not inverting its use.

Maybe, none that I am aware of. Right now we are using essentials chat, which is basic but it includes the proximity chat (if enabled). I looked for quite a while last night, and using tekkit and still being on 1.2.5 causes some issues. It needs to be popular enough to support tags from factions and permission plugins, but it cant be the cutting edge since the new Async function isnt included in 1.2.5 (and that is what all the new chats are using). I'm backing away from Hero chat, since I can only get the 4.X version to work, and the 5.X redoes everything in 4.x, so I would have to redo everything when tekkit does release an update.
I did find a simple one that layers on top of whatever existing chat we are using to add channels. Think we might go with this, I'm going to round up some testers tonight.
EDIT: and just to be sure we are on the same page, when you guys are saying local chat Im assuming you mean just the players within X blocks of you? If you are asking about just having more channels to use for whatever, then yeah I can do that (with the plugin I was looking at)

Yea, I would love to get as close as we can to using /l chat and /g chat that way we have to option of participating in either "frequency?" Possibility of muting either channel if I desire to.

That is how the channels work. You can jump between them. I don't want to break up the chat too much until we get more players, so there will only be a few.
